How to Use the BattleDex Type Matchup Calculator

BattleDex Strategy is a browser-based Pokémon type calculator using the complete Gen 9 (Scarlet/Violet) type chart. Select up to 2 types in attacking or defending mode to instantly see damage multipliers — 4×, 2×, 1×, 0.5×, 0.25×, and 0×. No signup, works offline after first load.

  1. Choose Attacking or Defending mode

    Use the toggle at the top to switch between modes. Attacking mode shows how effective your moves are against Pokémon of that type. Defending mode shows what your Pokémon is weak or resistant to.

  2. Select your type(s)

    Click any of the 18 type buttons to select your first type. You can select a second type for dual-type calculations — the tool automatically combines both types into a single matchup result.

  3. Read the matchup results

    Results are grouped by damage multiplier: 4× Super Effective, 2× Super Effective, 1× Normal, 0.5× Not Very Effective, 0.25× Not Very Effective, and 0× Immune. Higher multipliers mean your move does more damage.

  4. Deselect and switch types

    Click a selected type again to deselect it. Switch freely between Attacking and Defending modes without losing your selection. The calculation recalculates instantly every time.

FAQ

Is this tool up to date for Gen 9 (Scarlet/Violet)?
Yes. BattleDex Strategy uses the Gen 9 type chart, which includes the Fairy type and all other adjustments introduced since Gen 6. The data is verified against the official type chart used in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
Does it work for dual-type Pokémon?
Yes. Select 2 types to see the combined matchup. For example, selecting Water + Flying (like Gyarados) in Defending mode shows that Electric moves are 4× effective, while Ground moves are 0× immune. The dual-type calculation is the same formula used in the games.
What is the difference between Attacking and Defending mode?
Attacking mode tells you how effective your moves of that type are against opponent Pokémon of the selected type(s). Defending mode tells you what your Pokémon (of the selected type(s)) is weak or resistant to when opponents attack. Switch modes freely with the same type selection.
Does this tool work offline?
Yes. After the page loads once, the entire type chart data is cached by the browser. No internet connection is required for subsequent uses.
